Notes R6 and MAPI

I have been tasked with setting up a Notes client on a MS SQL server so that SQL server can send email.

All of the documentation I have read says that there must be a MAPI client.

As I understand it, Notes client no longer supports MAPI.

  1. Is that correct and,

  2. What is a way to work around that limitation in Notes?

As I understand it, I’m no true specialist in this area, Notes supports MAPI but isn’t supplied with a MAPI interface.

If there is one installed at OS level, it can be configured to utilise the Notes engine.

MAPI used to come with Windows e.g. as part of Windows messaging in Win95, but it was seemingly taken out but can be installed separately. I carry an Office 97 CD for this purpose, I know it installs MAPI with the Outlook client. It may be that the MAPI client is downloadable directly from Microsoft.

For sure, as soon as MAPI is installed, you can use Notes 6 with it.
