Notes error: You cannot login using the supplied User id file, smartcard or password

Steps to recreate:

+Installed 851 Notes client on Snow Leopard. Selected no options for Symphony or Sametime. Launched Notes and completed all config tasks but received and local DB encryption message so decided to start over.

+Uninstalled and deleted data folder.

+Installed again. Installer finishes w/o error.

+Launched Notes again and now receive the Subject message with 4 options. Try to login again, Switch to different ID, Try to recover PW or exit.

  • If I copy new ID file to the data folder it gets past this step but then warns it cannot find names.nsf.

What I’d really like is for a completely fresh start. Obviously something is not uninstalled completely or something is stored possibly on server somewhere. Are there steps to get back to a totally fresh install.

Subject: Uninstall again?

Uninstall it again with Uninstaller. Then delete data folder and Preferences file (~/Library/Preferences/Notes Preferences). Please let me know if it work for you.

Subject: Reinstall

Yes, deleting the Preferences file worked. Curious why this file is not removed during an uninstall.

Subject: Uninstaller doesn’t delete the Data folder and the Preferences file

If you want to remove data folder, you should remove the preferences file too.
