Problem/Query:

I am a Notes Admin. A user has received an email which is displayed in his Mail Database in MIME format. The Email documents contains a field called $MIMETrack and also a field called $NoteHasNativeMeme which contains the value “1”. Another user has recieved the same email and in her mail database the email is displayed in Rich Text Format. The email in her mail database does not contain the fields $MIMETrack or $NoteHasNativeMeme.
This problem regulary occurs with Emails which have been sent from another application, whether Notes or otherwise.
What could be the reason for the same email being displayed in different formats in different Email databases? What can I do to solve this problem?
In the users HCL Notes Client I have checked the parameter “Enable Reply/Forward as MIME” but it has not made any difference.

Two possibilities:

  • The recipient is “addressed” using an SMTP address that is not “instantly” identifyable as an alias for the user so that router converts the mail to SMTP before delivering

  • The person document of the recipient is set to “Prefers MIME” in the “Format preference for incoming mail” field instead of “Keep in senders’ format”

Thanks very much for your suggestions. The user had “Prefers MIME” in his Person document. I have now changed this setting. Next week I will update you on whether or not this solves the problem.

I read this with interest, because we have had an issue sending mail from our (very old) internally-developed CMS system, which routes mail to external users, many of whom use gmail or Outlook.

I’m not sure if there is any relationship. Our issue is rich text formatting. In the Notes client, the sent email shows the numbering…

In Gmail it loses the numbering and changes the indentation…

I had writen this up some time ago in the Notes forum, but couldn’t get a resolution… HCL Notes/Domino - [READ-ONLY] - Email loses it’s formatting - Community

Any thoughts on how to resolve would be appreciated.

Paul

as this is a completely different problem from the one of OP I’d suggest to create a new question
