I have one user that receive the following error message during start-up of his Notes Client.
“Unable to openName and Address Book (names.nsf), due to error ‘File does not exist’. Locations cannot be useduntil the problem has been corrected”
-
I have tried with another “names.nsf” with the same result.
-
In the “locations part” there is written “none”
-
The user cannot open his Domino Web Access solution
-
I have deleted cache.ndk
I have checked in notes.ini but cannot find any error or strange in the file.
What do I have to do ?

Roger,
If you have no locations defined then that is your issue. Create a location decoument called ‘Office’ and place in it the correct settings for your office NNN and you should get going.

Thanks, but we have several location documents and the user had access without problem Desember 31st
The issue is that the user is not allowed to start his Notes Client. The error message comes immediately after he try to start his client. Then it gives the error message and then shut down the client.
I still need more information about how to solve this problem.
Subject: RE: Notes Client refuse to open mailfile
rename cache.ndk to cache.old and desktop6.ndk to desktop6.old and see if that helps.
If you can then load the client try restoring the desktop6 by closing notes and deleting desktop6.ndk and renaming desktop6.old to desktop6.ndk. Then open it again and see if it still works.
If it does your problem was with the cache file. if it does not then that desktop file is corrupt and you will need to delete it and let notes recreate it on startup.

Hi:I had a similar problem with roaming users failing to roam.
In the data directory, I found several backup copies of the names.nsf (like names.000; names.001, or similar).
Ranamed the most recent one to names.nsf and the Notes client was able to start normally.

Thanks for your responce but the user has only one names.nsf (or similar) in his data directory.

first check for multiple notes.ini files and delete the one’s that are not needed. second, check the Directory= line in the notes.ini and make sure it points to the notes data directory. third, make sure the line NAMES=names is set correctly.
