Notes client developer version?

I’m just getting started testing our App withthe Notes 8.5 client. In Notes 7 I am used to being able to right click on a document to view the list of fields in the document properties. I don’t see this capability in 8.5. Do I need a different version, i.e. Domino Developer? I don’t have a Domino server and don’t really want one - we deal just with the local client.

Subject: Hope this helps

Test the same on my 6.5.6 apps and can see the document properties using 8.5 client. Try to create a new database on 8.5 (i.e. discussion) and if you see the doc properties on that then it might be your permissions on the database ?

Subject: re: Hope this helps

I did create a new local .nsf file to testthis with, so I have full rights. When I right click a message, I see things like Reply,

Print, Delete, etc. Nothing about Document Properties. In my About box, it says “Standard Configuration”. What do you have?

Subject: Are you only using a mail database to check?

I’ve just checked this in a few different databases. If I right-click a document in my mail database, Document Properties is NOT on the menu. In any other database (not based on mail template), it IS on the menu.

So it seems to be something changed in the 8.5 mail template.

Try using the keyboard shortcut Alt-Enter. That works regardless of the database design.

Subject: This can be added back using Designer

The following article details how the right-click menu is turned: IBM Developer

To just add Document Properties back I’d suggest creating a new folder in designer, right click in the action bar pane and select ‘Insert system actions’, then copy the Document Properties system action to the inbox.

Subject: Under Windows, use - instead of right mouse-click

as far as I can tell this happens in all standard databases like mail , discussion etc. that are presenting their data using components rather than standard views. Aprt from the solution already offered by others I prefer this one: highlight your document then hit -. This brings up the “good old” properties box (please don’t ask what key combo you’d had to use under OSX or Linux…)

hope this helps

Subject: Same here, I can only get the doc properties from the preview pane

It seems like if the view is an eclipsed base view (i.e., your Inbox folder or all Docs) you can’t do it. You can get to it from the preview pane though- right click in there or you can go to file \application properties, then select document and get to it from there.

Regular notes apps/views that seems to work as in prior versions and in the basic version of 8.x

Subject: you are correct…

in 8.5 the specifically trimmed the right-click menus in the PIM apps (mail, calendar, todo, journal) so that users only see a listing of things that pertains to that usage.

Best method is go get the DocViewer sidebar plug-in - it does more than doc properties and is the best sidebar out there. You can find it by searching in the 8 forum
