Notes Client 8.5 hangs for a minute when deleting messages - do you have a tip?

I have some VIP-Users with large mail databases that report problems when deleting email from their inbox. The client (Standard 8.5 FP1; Server is 8.5 FP1 on Windows 2003) simply does nothing aka hangs for about 2 minutes and then continues. This is very anoying for them.

I’ve done some common server tuning like reducing I/O relevant parameters on the server side. (Thanks for Domino Configuration Tuner). Unfortenately - nothing helped so far to resolve these client hangs.

These users do not see problems when they move messages from the Inbox into folders - only deleting messages from the Inbox shows this problem.

Here’s what we tried on the client side:

  • We disallowed the virus scanner to touch any

    Notes files (*.nsf, *.NDK, *.ntf, …)

  • Deleted Cache.NDK

  • Compacted the workspace

  • deleting the workspace* directory structure

Has someone seen this?

Anything else I could check?

Thanks,

Uwe

Subject: Does is also happen when using the basic client?

Just to determine if it’s a problem with the Java configuration, start the Notes Basic client and see if the time-out occurs there as well.

You can also enable the client clock to try and find out where the delay is happening.

Addi these lines to the notes.ini of your user:

Client_Clock=1

Debug_console=1

Debug_Outfile=[directory]\notesdebug.txt

As one can see, the OPEN_COLLECTION has the problems here: Over a minute of time!

Server is 8.5.1 client is currently 8.5FP1.

Does anyone know what we can do here?

Subject: Update

I have switch my user to Basic. He will test for a while and let me know.

The problem in his case is intermitant. Sometimes he will select and delete one or 20 message real fast and sometimes it will take up to 2 minutes to delete 1 or 20 messages.

The problem comes several times a day every day. So if it is the same in Basic, we should know soon.

Keep you posted.

Jacques

I have one client with the exact same problem… I followed the same logic but nothing…

Any Idea?
