Hi,I’m looking for an archive solution for the huge mailboxes. See that notes has a native archive solution. But there are also a lot of other vendors with solutions for mailarchiving. Why should we take those solutions insteat of the native solution. Hope someone has experiance with that.
I would like to invite you to have a look at this solution.
The solution
The Lialis email archiving solution archives the emails in your environment as you demand. Once configured, the selection of the emails to be archived runs automatically. You can determine which emails will be archived by the solution, for example emails older than 100 days.
How does the solution work?
The archived emails turn up on the normal Lotus Domino-server, on which the Lialis archive solution is installed. This central email archiving solution manage the entire archiving process. The main advantage of the Lialis solution is that employees have access to their archived email messages as easy as before, while the emails remain visible in their mail file folders. Via a link there is an invisible connection between the mail file and the archive database.
Find information
The archive solution has an special search functionality. This functionality searches both archived and not archived email messages. Therefore users don’t notice what happens in the background. The solution can be used for both personal as general email databases.
Houskeeping makes sure the archive database does not grow larger than a for example 5 GB.
Pricing of this tool lies between 5 and 8 euro per Notes database (pricing 2009)
Subject: either EmailXtender or Symantec Ent. Vault for Domino are much better then native domino archiving
there are many advantages of using 3rd party solution over native Domino archiving, here is few reasons:- both Symantec EV for Domino and EmailExtender EMC leave stub/pointer in mailbox and archive email to external storage, much more user fraindly then Domino archiving
both solutions do much better email compresion then Domino nativly so you save space additionally if you have emails sent to entire company with attachment since this is same email EmailXtender will store only one copy of this email in storage and stubs in user mailboxes
usually these 3rd party solution hav ealso more rubost and rich policy settings so you can slice and dice how you want to archive and where archive files will go, external storage does not have to have Domino running on the server so i.e. you can store archibe email on file server or SAN.
finally if you have in the future need for additional features i.e. tracking every single email for complaience reasons you can do this with same software just need additional licenses for particular feature
You have to decide if you are going to stay in the Domino world. Staying in the Domino world will not require new skills from your admins but the extent of the solution will be slightly limited. Solutions that stay in Domino that we tried are MailAttender and ReduceMailpro. We dropped MailAttender because we liked the stubs left in the mailfile of ReduceMailpro.
If you want to go Enterprise, then emailXtender and Symantec Vault are more appropriate but those solution will require special attention (and staff). CA had a decent solution and AXOne as well especially if you want to archive more than just email. Also it gets complicated if you have branch offices. Just for that staying in the Domino World paid off.
