I’m really miffed that IBM seems to consider the Macintosh as idiot told to sit in the back of the class and leave the rest of the class alone.
I called IBM the other day to ask about the compatibility of the 6.5 client and the new Mac Panther OS. The saleslady said (and I’m not making this up), “Lotus Notes doesn’t have a Mac client at this time.” I said that I’d been running 6-dot-something since July 2002 and 6.5 for a few weeks. She put me on hold; when she came back she said “you’re right, no one told me about it.”

The pull-down list of platforms on the search page doesn’t even include Macintosh. There is a Unix, but that’s not the same thing.

God knows how I did it, but I got the 6.5 client by using IE for Windows in VirtualPC. The Web page would not work using Safari, IE, or Netscape in Mac.

And don’t get me started on iNotes through a browser … it should be a given. It’s the WEB for cryin’ out loud. You don’t need a lot of platform-specific Java crap to make it work. Platform-centric is neither the spirit of Java nor the spirit of the Web.
From what I’ve read in these forums and the “IBM-supports-Mac” marketing hype I’ve seen, it would seem a class action is in order, though I loath the term.

To answer your question about Notes and Panther, we have found the following 2 issues :
we are not able to run Notes in Native Mac OS X on a consistant way (we have to go back to Classic)
we found that attachment are not readable on PC anymore
We suspect that some things are just plain wrong with the Notes Preferences file location.
We noticed that also Panther limits the .ds_store files, it creates a lot of .anydocument_name, making
We are not sure about what’s went wrong and how to fix it. Basically we decided to currently postpone our Panther migration plan on Macs running 6.02CF1 in native mode
We have no support from IBM on this one either. As you said, our IBM contacts are just not aware about Mac clients. They fowarded us to the online support section of this site (contact support). But as I am French, this service is not available online for us.
Regarding the web browser issue, did you test it in Mozzilia 1.5 ?

Did you mean all OS X, or just Panther? Because 6.5 works okay for me in 10.2.8. It crashes upon launch about once every 10 launches, but the next launch works. I upgraded OS 10.2.6 to .8, Java to 1.4.1, and Notes 6.something to 6.5 in the same day, so I don’t know which is the culprit. But except for the launch crash it works okay.
Regarding the web browser issue, did you test it in Mozzilia 1.5?
No. I tried IE5, Nestcape 7, and Safari 1, the latter using the various user agents, which include Mozilla 1.1, but not 1.5.
But guess what? My iNotes now works, and I don’t know why it started working, perhaps the Java 1.4.1 update? I’m on using a version 5 server and corporate is moving people over to version 6 in chunks, so it may be a while before I’m on 6 – which I hope doesn’t break!

Whoops, spoke to soon.
I thought iNotes was working because it showed up (earlier it would not let me in at all) and I could view an e-mail. But in Safari, the buttons along the top are either dead or send me into a spinning beachball and I have to force quit.
iNotes works okay in IE5 but its objects are arranged kind of funky.
