I have recently moved from notes 7 to 8.02 then 8.5. I have the same symtoms as many posts but I am unable to resolve.
When strating notes full client the splash screen dissapears leaves nlnotes.exe and nsd running in the background. If I use the -sa switch the basic version loads OK.
I have uninstalled, deleted all folders, removed any lotus entries in registry and reinstalled in a different directory.
Any further help would be appreciated
Subject: Information to find cause of the issue on your machine
From the description, there looks to be a issue in launching the Notes Client’s UI.
Request this data from the user.
-
Launch Standard Client
-
While see the nlnotes, run ‘nsd’ from data directory (open a command prompt , and cd to your data directory), and provide the logfile
-
Also, if you can launch with "notes.exe -RPARAMS -debug "
the Data\workspace\logs\rcplauncher.log, will enable diagnosis.
Thank You

Subject: We have the same problem for some of our users
after they have been upgraded from 7.0.3 to 8.5 on WindowsXP and Vista.
When they have been upgraded to 8.5 the client just hang and never starts using between 50-100% CPU.
Tried to run a nfixup -j and ncompact -C on all databases on the client and deleted Cache.NDK.
Tried to reinstall the notes client completely also without luck.
When you use the “-sa” it starts up fine so it must be a notes 8.5 feature that kills the client.
