Notes 8.5 on Citrix Metaframe 4.5

In a Citrix Metaframe 4.5 environment (3 Server) I have upgraded from Notes 7.0.2 to Notes 8.5 (Standard client). Prior to this the Domino Server has been migrated to Domino 8.5, ODS switched to version 51 and the Design of the mail databases was upgraded to the 8.5 mail template.

Now all is working fine with one exception. In the central view of the calendar (by month, by week, by day, etc.) all entries are shown three hours after the original time - e. g. a meeting planed from 8 AM to 10 AM is displayed from 11 AM to 1 PM. The times in the calendar pree view and Day-At-A-Glance view are shown correctly.

If the calendars are opened from a local installed Notes client, all calendar entries are displayed correctly.

The citrix Notes clients are configured to use the OS time settings.

This behavior occured after the upgrade, in Notes 7 the calendar displayed correctly.

Any idea is very appreciated.

Subject: Notes 8.5 on Citrix

Hi Unfortunatly I do not have an answer to assist you with your issue, however I do have a question for you since you are making progress with install on Citrix PS 4.5. I too have a farm and am trying to get 8.5 Std to work the best possible way…in one of my previous posts I mentioned I can get Std to load fine on the Citrix servers when the Program and User Data folder resides on the local Citrix Server. I used IBM’s recommendaton to do a Single user install. I have a similiar environment with 3 Citrix PS 4.5 Servers and as I understand roaming is not supported…Can you share your install method and what it is your doing to sync your Data (bookmarks, names desktop etc) between your CTX servers…much appreciated!

Subject: More on times.

I have an iSeries box (similar but different) which has the time set to GMT with no changes, In order for Citrix to have the correct time I have to have the line DST=0 in the servers notes.ini file and have the client set to use the OS time zone. HTH

It seems to be related to the database design. After downgrading the design to the Notes 7 mail template the calendar views are displayed correctly within the citrix Notes client.

Subject: maybe a Java Problem

we have a similar issue with XenApp 5. I was told by our developers the calendar view in Notes 8.x (Eclipse)is a Java based view and uses the Java time information of the (local)JVM. But I don’t now how to read or to set the time of the JVM.

Subject: Problem solved

The problem was caused due to the group policies in citrix. In the base policy is an option ‘local time…’ which was not activated. After enabling this option the calenders are displayed correctly.

Subject: Found another solution

My customer’s Citrix person told me there were no policy differences between machines where this worked correctly, and where it did not. Hence we did not pursue the policy settings.

We however found an internal use only technote in the Lotus Knowledge Base which resolved the issue. Basically the problem can be resolved by exporting the TimeZoneInformation registry key (folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control) from a PC that does not have this issue (required), and importing it on one that does (Make sure the registry key is applied/imported locally on the PC - not through Citrix). The problem is gone after the client is restarted.

Please call Lotus support and refer to internal technote 1376357 for details.

Subject: Ongoing support case on the same issue

We have had a support incident on the exact same issue running for months.

The customer issue appears on 9 out of 10 PC’s, and we have so far been unable to establish what it is that goes wrong.

It does seem to relate to the Java implementation - the issue is not seen when using old (pre-8) mail design, nor is it seen when using Notes Basic - so not necessarily a design issue!

All users logging in on a failing PC see this issue. All users logging in on a PC that does not have the issue - works fine. To me this is an indication that the issue is somehow related to the individual hardware used.

One cause could be that the timezone is corrected by Citrix if there is a mismatch between client and server. This appears to somehow go wrong.

We are wondering whether it is the timezone setting that is causing issues. On failing clients the timezone is set to something different than the ones that do work - although the time settings are the same - ie. Paris in the ones that do work, and Prague in the ones that do not. As the control panel is locked down in this particualr environment, we have been unable to see if this theory could be right.

Notice another oddity - in 8.0.2 appointments appeared 6 hours early - in 8.5 it is 4 hours late. The oddest issue I have ever come across.

The issue generally does not appear when accessing the solution through the browser, or directly on the server (as there has to be no timezone conversion made?)

Please let us all know if you are able to resolve this issue.
