I had the same issue with many upgrades. I finally did a clean install of 8.0.2, and the freezing went away. It appears to have been a corrupt workspace.
I’ve tried to rename the workspace, so Notes has to recreate a new Workspace. This didn’t work either. So I think that a clean install is the only option.
I actually put a hold on our Smart Upgrade to 8.0.2. It seemed to be hit-and-miss with the clients. Some worked fine, while others had errors and/or froze on startup. I think we are going to hold out until 8.5 comes out, unless IBM releases some patches. It also concerns me, when you call IBM support, the support team is STILL running version 7. Maybe they know more than we do.
The problem seems to be with the Eclipse/Expeditor workspace (folder “workspace” under the Notes data folder), not the Notes workspace (“desktop6.ndk”). Did you try renaming the workspace folder to workspace.bak? I’ve been having problems, and this seemed to work for me. You lose many preferences (basically anything that isn’t in profile documents or location documents) but it’s better than having Notes hang half the time on startup.
Subject: Renaming the Workspace Folder fixes the hang on login…
But it resets all your settnigs back to default. Do we know which file contains these user settings that maybe could be copied back into the new workspace folder after a successfull login?
I’ve already tried to create a new workspace. It didn’t work. And now, just a few seconds ago, I’m starting to have the same issue. Just out of the blue.
I gave up on an upgrade, and went to a clean install. Works fine for a while, then nothing is clickable. Can right click, but none of the menu options work. Have to restart Notes to clear this up.
Very frustrating… but par for the course. Guess my demo will be to show the client why they should migrate to Exchange/Outlook.
Well I’ve created a PMR for this issue and sended the log files. They’ve escalated the PMR to the next level. They’ve also announced that an hot fix is coming. Hopefully this week.
Any word on the hot fix? I tried the smart upgrade from 8.0.1 basic to 8.0.2 Standard and it was random. Some clients were prompted and worked, some prompted and failed with the No Upgrade Kits found, please contact your administrator. Then a lot of my clients aren’t even prompted. I have a PMR open with IBM we’ll see what they say.
Subject: We have a PMR open as well. Still no fix…
It’s been a month since the last member mentioned the fact that IBM was going to produce a fix. We just opened another PMR and they seemed to be stumped. A post from Scott Wise that dates back to May 08 stated that he had some success with removing Java version 6 from his pc and installing Java 5_14. That didn’t work for me. I’ll keep everyone posted as to what comes of this.
Same problem here, after Smart upgrade from 8.0 to 8.0.2, users received an error when clicking on almost anything. Heaps of errors in the eclipse log. Removing the workspace folder and restarting fixes the issue. Let me know if anyone finds a fix. Not really up for doing this for all clients.
I had a similar problem. I’m testing the upgrade 8.0.2 before rolling out here, so I took a clean laptop and install notes 6.5.6. First worked with the 8.0.1 standard (eclipse) upgrade through smartupgrade, and that didn’t work if I sat the kit configuration to “Notes standard”. If I sat it to “Notes Basic” it would work.
Now, I’m trying to upgrade my 8.0.1 to 8.0.2, and that didn’t work (no kits found) unless I change it back to “Notes Standard”…
I wonder if our users having a blend of notes 6 and 7 will find the 8.0.2 kit if I leave it at standard… we’ll see later…
Also, several of the users that where upgraded to 8.0.1 through smart upgrade, got logged in the tracking report as failed or cancelled, while in fact being succeeded. All of these upgraded from 6.5.5 or 7.0.2
I had the same problems. Now I created two kit documents (One with standard client and one with basic client) which are exactly the same. The only difference is the field configuration. It seems that the upgrade has a problem with this field. I upgraded 8.0.1 client with basic settings and it worked. Another 8.0.1 client failed with missing kit message. By switching the configuration setting to standard it worked. Strange.
So I made a copy of the kit-document and activated the standard setting. You have to set the type of installation switch again because it is cleared. The destination version has to be the same. After this both clients worked.
Just started upgrading one of my users as a test. He was currently on 8.0.1 and got asked about 8.0.2 upgrade this morning as he should. Cancelled that as we rather wanted to start this manually before going to lunch. When we came back, there was a prompt that we needed to close “Lotus Smart upgrade” before we could continue Not so smart after all this upgrade process…
On my machine when Note starts, it shows the yellow splash window, then it shows the login window, and then there are two alternatives.
If I immediately enter the password on my ID and hit ENTER, it shows a progress bar, after some time it shows the workspace, and then hangs.
But if I wait a few seconds (on my dual core 2 GHz 2 GB RAM machine with a full startup folder, it takes maybe 15 seconds, but when I had something running in the background it took even half a minute, so be patient), the workspace window shows up behind the login window (if you’re unlucky, it shows up in front of it, and you have to ALT-TAB to dring the login window to the foreground - happened to me when I switched desktops - amont other PC-choking stuff I have multiple destops on Windows). If you enter the password and click OK after the workspace is already visible, the client doesn’t hang anymore.
Can anybody reproduce this?
And BTW, I cannot use the fixpack which was just released. It tells me it expects a different version of Notes 8.0.2 than the one I have installed. Stupid me or stupid Notes?
