We have a problem with Notes Client 6.5.1 on Citrix MetaframeXP. One User opens a session and while opening and closing mails nlnotes.exe on the Citix-Server hangs on nearly 100%.Has anybody seen this problem before?

Hi we have similar problems. We run Lotus Client 6.5.1 german under Citrix Metaframe XP with an (Cluster-)Novell Fileserver. On the fileserver we have all mapped user datas. If one File Server crashes and switched to another, all Clients lost their connection. But the main problem is, that some of the user sessions (nlnotes.exe) froze the citrix server up to 100 % CPU and the only (really only) way is to restart the server. According to this problem, we fight about 8 month with IBM. We had similar problems under R5, but with R6 the problem escalated. It would be good if you open an call and also make some pressure against IBM !!!

We were given a workaround from Lotus to keep clients from eating up all the memory.
We are supposed to set the clients notes.ini file to have the entry below:
PercentAvailSysResources=5
Where 5 is a percentage of the systems total resources (ram).
Not sure whether this has fixed the problem yet, but it sounds like Lotus is aware of the problem (which has existed since version 5.x)

We still work on this problem. Now we have a very good supporter form IBM inhouse, he tries to give us an DLL (up from client 6.5.1, created on his own skills) for the Client Software. This should be put on every Citrix Server under Lotus\Notes Program directory. At the moment we are in deep tests. If this works fine, i let you know the SPR for this case. This DLL helps the hanging Lotus Client to close in an normal way and release the high CPU of the citrix server and no reboot is nessecary.
And don’t forget to escalate your similar experiences against IBM…

Thanks again for this. We have logged the issue with IBM, but so far, they are asking some pretty basic questions and suggesting things that just aren’t feasable in a large Citrix farm.

The latest news are, we got a DLL for the Notes Client. This DLL is able to close the client after network failure. We run the client user data’s on an (novell) file server. If the users lost their homedrive the client runs into a network error ‘the network path was not found’. Nearly all of the client’s processes could be closed from user or administrator. But we have few of them which couldn’t, only way is to reboot the citrix server. The first function of the DLL is to close the client if users don’t work with them. The second function is the DLL gives ‘working user’ a red popup window with the message to push enter to close the client. The Client could be restarted no server reboot is necessary. We have tested it with about 10 Users environment, it works fine. In the next weeks we go on 250 Users and finally we will install the DLL on 100 Citrix Server for about 5000 Users. I think we are in a final way. If i get a SPR number, which is planned i will post it….
