Not able to open up the lotus notes id file -Password problem

I have a domino Server which is configured for ID Vault. Now the user has forgotten his password and the error message displayed is You had a different password on another copy of your id file and you must change the password on this copy.

How do I solve this.

Subject: That error is generated by server-based password checking, not the vault

Try clearing the password digest field from that user’s person document in the directory.
