NJ Company masquerading as Iris Associates

A NJ company has conveniently named themselves “Iris Software Inc.” and recruites for IBM Lotus jobs. They are trying to impersonate Ray Ozzie’s former company “Iris Associates”.

Anyone want to respond to these copy cats ?

How dare they try to impersonate Ray Ozzie and piggy back off his success !

They sent me the email below and their copy cat web site is http://www.irissoftinc.com.

Thanks – I passed it on to our IP department.

Subject: No they aren’t.

They don’t even mention Lotus Notes or Ray Ozzie on their site.

Subject: RE: No they aren’t.

They don’t mention Ray. They DO mention Notes a fair amount.

Subject: Hardly.

Come on. This company is in no way trying to pass itself as Iris Associates. They don’t mention Ray Ozzie and they don’t claim to have invented or developed Lotus Notes.

They are a partner to multiple companies including IBM and Micsosoft. Yes they do mention Notes on their Professional Services page but they also mention just about every other technology ever invented including Web Logic, Exchange, Oracle, MySQL, Visual Basic etc etc.

And if you take a look at their page titled “Collaboration and Knowledge Management Services” they don’t even mention Lotus Notes.

I wasn’t saying they were trying to pass themselves off as Iris Associates. Just that they do mention Notes. I really couldn’t care less whether anyone confuses them with the original Notes development team.

from your email they appear to be a recruitment agency, the original is/was a software company.

not 100% sure about the corporate laws in the US but in Australia you can have several companies with the same name so long as they are all in unrelated fields, ie they cannot be confused with each other, eg Iris Associates (Recruitment Agency), Iris Associates (Software Vendor), Iris Associates (Legal Firm), Iris Associates (Opthamologist)

how anyone could confuse a recruitment agency with a software company is beyond me, and they don’t even have the same name anyway, “Iris Software” vs “Iris Associates”.

please explain how you think they are impersonating ray ozzie or (the now defunct/merged) iris associates?

ps. no i’m not going to visit their web site, call me cynical but i can’t be bothered trawling through web sites posted to public forums for dubious reasons.
