Newbie: javascript code doesnt seem to function well

The function of this code is to append new entry in a field with the previous saved entry. Just need an idea, why this code deletes the previous entry in a field and only the current entry is left on the field?

temphistory = f.DateToday.value + " " + f.TimeNow.value + " - " + Status + " - " + f.Editor.value + " - " + f.Remarks.value;

f.History.value = temphistory + “\n” + " - - - - - - - " + “\n” + f.History.value;

return true;

what kind of field are you using?
