I am just learning domino designer so please forgive me if this is easy.
I need to have documents show in their repected folders based on a selected choice (location) from a combobox in the document.
The choice from the combobox is going to be the same name that the folder is called.
I know that I will need to probably use an If statement like the following but I don’t know how to get the foldername of an existing folder.
ex. If “location” = “Foldername” then movetofolder “Foldername” if not do nothing.
This needs to be setup as a background agent so that everytime a new document is created or an existing one is updated, and this field is changed that the document is moved to its repected folder.
Please help.

Sounds to me like you actually want views here, not folders. The difference between views and folders is that views automatically select documents for display, but you have to put documents into and take documents out of folders. A set of views having selection formulas like this:
SELECT Form=“FormName” & CriticalField=“Value”
will do the trick.

Ok. That is what I originally thought of doing. Then I realized that if more choices are added to the combo box then more views are going to need to be created.
This Database, to start out, if I did it by creating views, there are going to be minimum 100 views. The more views = more space needed.
I thought that if I had 4 or 5 views total, then I could probably have it setup to filter the documents to their repected folders, that way the size of the database is kept down.
Is using folders going to be more difficult to manage/setup or is it not possible/unrealistic?

Folders have exactly the same space requirements – as I said, the only difference between a folder and a view is that one has a selection formula. If you want to limit the number of views, you could put the “critical field” in the first column and categorize it. Set the view to collapse all when opened, and the users can easily navigate the categories.

You might also want to look into single category embedded views and/or @SetViewInfo. Either option could easily give you the effect of 100 different views but with just the overhead of one view index.
