Gustaf,

This is a good forum for tips and hints and solutions - personally I would recommend reading the Designer Handbook (the yellow book) to get a feel for the structure of Notes (the basics like Forms, Views, Fields, Agents) and then move on from there

I am sure someone will post a link to a good on-line tutorial

Well,Mike, Yello book is great. But if u have a question it is difficult to ask the book. Fourms is great. Peoples helping peoples.

I am looking forward to that link because there is to mutch domino server talk in this forum. That is my opinon. I think I would be great to split it in to two forums … but thats just me…

Good point Gustaf - i agree that books are not as interactive as other media

There is nothing to say that you cannot post any question on this forum. People post all sorts of topics

The only thing to bear in mind is the forum etiquette (see the link on the right). Most users give their thoughts and time willingly to answer someone’s question if they are genuinely stuck (and polite!)

Here is a list you can start with:

My new designer learning process:

Have an idea for something useful - not another cd/dvd manager, something with a bit of meat that folks might actually use.

Build one part of the design - something simple, just to prove you can make it work.

Extend your design to include something else.

Repeat until you’re done.

There is no better way to learn how to do something that to bang your head against a programming wall until you figure out the issue.

Use this forum for help. SEARCH for answers (if you can think of a question, I’ll pretty much guarantee it’s been posted and answered a zillion times). Use the FAQs. Post questions - include debugging and troubleshooting you’ve done. Include the important bits of code with details about the issue as comments.

This is a great place to come for help. I would never have gotten off page one if not for the original CompuServe Lotus 1-2-3 forum and all of the other on-line communities that developed since the early 80’s. Welcome to Notes and have some fun.

You may find the Domino 6 Programming Bible by Oliver/Benz to be a good introduction to the Designer.
