New User Questions

Hello folks,

New Notes 6 user and have a few questions I would appreciate help with:

  1. Can I import business email I have in Outlook Express (multiple folders) into Lotus Notes?

  2. For a brief moment when first using Notes, I saw letterhead and stationary. Now it is plain text only and I can not find a setting to revert to seeing the graphics. Know where that setting is hidden?

  3. My first email rule to send mail that is addressed to a specific email address to a specific folder only works sometimes. Can’t understand why?

It says if to a specific email address, move to a specific folder. Sometimes works, sometimes puts it in the Inbox.

Insight?

  1. Can the contacts list be formatted to print in “DayTImer” style? ACT! does a beautiful job of this. Can not find similar settings in Notes.

  2. Some colors, such as the highlight on Folders, is light blue with white text and totally unreadable. How can I change these? I am set to use system colors and these are NOT my system colors.

Thanks for any help.

MAIL AND DIRECTORY MIGRATION

Migrating personal mail data

During the first phase of a migration, you used Domino Upgrade Services in the Domino Administrator to migrate the users listed in the public directory of the old mail system and to move the contents of their mail boxes from the old messaging server. Users can now complete the migration by converting their personal mail data, such as private addresses, mailing lists, and message archives, to Lotus Notes.

Users migrate personal mail data by running an upgrade wizard, which guides them through the process of converting their personal mail data to Notes data. Users launch the upgrade wizard from an upgrade message in the Inbox of their Notes mail file. The administrator sends the upgrade message from the Domino Administrator, which specifies the location of the wizard program files. You can install the upgrade wizard as part of each user’s Lotus Notes client or in a shared network directory.

Lotus Notes/Domino 6 provides user upgrade wizards for migrating personal mail data from:

Lotus cc:Mail

Microsoft Mail

Microsoft Outlook Express

Microsoft Exchange

This section includes the following topics:

Data migrated by the user upgrade wizards

Before running the upgrade wizard

Platform requirements for running the user upgrade wizards

Installing the upgrade wizard

Sending users an upgrade notification message

Running the upgrade wizard

Converting message archives

Migrating mail messages from Microsoft Outlook Express

Migrating personal address book information

After the upgrade wizard finishes processing

MAIL AND DIRECTORY MIGRATION

Migrating mail messages from Microsoft Outlook Express

After users run the Microsoft Outlook Express upgrade wizard to create Notes mail accounts in Outlook Express, they can migrate mail messages to their Notes mail account. To migrate messages, users open any folder in the Local Folders mail account in Outlook Express, then do any of the following:

Drag and drop messages into Notes mail account folders

Copy messages to the Notes mail account folders

Move messages to the Notes mail account folders

The Notes mail account contains the same folders found in the Local Folders mail account in Outlook Express. If users want to create additional folders for their Notes mail accounts, they can do so in Outlook Express.

After migrating messages to their Notes mail account, users can access those messages through their Notes mail database in the Lotus Notes 6 client.

Tip If users cannot connect with the Domino server, check the Security tab of the Server document. Select the “Internet authentication: More name variations with lower security” option in the Internet Access field. This allows Outlook Express users to connect with the server using their short names.

Thanks for that.

Problem is that my OE mail is on my home machine with not connectivity to my Lotus Notes laptop. This could be a problem.

I might just have to forward all 300 some odd messages to my new Lotus email account.

Subject: letterhead

In your mail file, select tools - preferences. In the mail tab, choose letterhead.

Subject: RE: letterhead

Thanks. But the problem is I can’t see any of the graphics. Not in letterhead preview or any message incoming or outgoing. It is not a wquestion of selecting, it is being visible. Even meeting messages are all ppolain text with no color or graphics.

What could have changed as I saw these for a few minutes on day one of using Notes? I see graphics that are html in the body, but no letterhead or staionary.

I know this is out-of-date, but if you have Use System colors checked under File - Preferences - User Preferences, then you cannot see the letterhead.

Don’t know why, I was actually on here to find out and stumbled across this posting…
