New copies of documents that keep doc links working

Hi,

We have a database with a large number of documents in it that we would like to delete and re-create. The only problem is that there are lots of doclinks to some of these documents.

1 - I assume that if I just copy / delete / paste back into the same view then all of the doclinks won’t work ?

2 - So I am looking for a way to do the above but preserve the integrety of the doclinks - is it possible ?

3 - Is it possible to programmatically copy all the documents in a view and at the same time copy across the ID of the each document as I go ?

4 - Also a question, is it the Universal ID or the Document ID that Notes uses for doclinks ? I have read that the UNID is editable but the NOTE ID isn’t. If I copied all the UNID’s to the new documents would it be good enough to preserve the doclinks ?

Thanks

Paul

the Note ID is specific to each database, regardless if they are replicas or not. The Universal ID of the document is the same across replicas. Preserving the Universal ID’s should allow your doclinks to keep working but the best way to confirm is to just test it. Create a test database with a few docs in it, create a few doclinks and store them in an e-mail, make sure they work. Now create your script to create a new copy of the document, replace the Universal ID then delete the original doc.

Hi both

AFAIK, changing the UNID will create a duplicate document, so, no need to copy first, just change the UNID, save, and delete the original (means, saving the original UNID first, in order to retrieve it programmatically)

Further, concerning the UNID, a first copy (no Copy/Paste, but with action/agent) will change the UNID for ANOTHER DB as in the following (replica ID of other DB being: A1B2C3D4) :

Original C1234567 : 87654321

Copy A1B2C3D4 : 87654321

It may help you finding solutions, at least I hope so.
