Network traffic R5 vs. R6 Server

Hi,because of performance problems with a lotus notes database we used a sniffer to evaluate network traffic between Notes client and server.

The result was very interesting:

With R5 Server the traffic was nearly 10 times higher than with R6! If you looked at the streams you noticed that with R5 a lot of design information was included that did not have any reference to the performed action.

Remark: we did not enable Network compression!

Is this effect due to general improvement of R6 server or is there another reason?

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I ask because our Domino v6.5.2 server has just started to send design information to about 75% of our clients when they try to read mail. This can equate to about 1MB of information for a 1KB file, which over a slow link, takes ages to transfer.
