Netscape 7.1 won't open inotes

I have upgraded to Domino Server 6.5.The mail opens fine for IE6.

However, the Netscape Browsers are 7.1, but have been upgraded from 5.0 over time.

When I try to open my inotes with Netsacpe 7.1 it suggests that I should use webmail and I receive the following notice

Browser name and version detected: Netscape 5.0 (Windows; en-US)

This is not true, how do I get around it.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I’ve got a similar answer with IE6 on a WinCE. Domino says it’s an IE5. Wrong also. And doesn’t make this browser a client solution. Grrrr!!!

iNotes 6 on-line help indicates that only “W32 IE 5 and above” is supported.

Does Domino 6.5 supports “officially” Netscape, or did you try to see if it works ?

WinCE is not W32

I tried to open inotes with Netscape 7.1, and it does not work. Does anyone know if Netscape 7.1 is compatible with Domino 6.5?

Subject: RE: Netscape 7.1 won’t open inotes

Yes it works.

just a question, you said you upgrade to 6.5, but did you upgrade the server or the client to 6.5 ?

Because to have Inotes working with netscape 7.1, you have to have the server running 6.5 AND have to use the template called Domino Web Access (6) on your mail DB.

Hope this helps

I have both Domino 6.5 and Netscape 7.1.The Netcape was an upgrade from Version 5.

The error on the bottom of the inotes screen is

I am running Netscape Version 5, but I am not.

Thanks for your time.

Netscape was an upgrade from version 5? Not likely – Netscape jumped from version 4 directly to version 6 for marketing reasons. The version reported for newish browsers will be:

navigator.appName

navigator.appVersion

MSIE 6 (with .NET installed)

Microsoft Internet Explorer

4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)

Netscape 7.1

Netscape

5.0 (Windows; en-US)

Mozilla Firefox 0.8

Netscape

5.0 (Windows; en-US)

As you can see, all Mozilla-based browsers will report themselves as Netscape version 5.

Subject: Actually Netscape 6 will show as Version 5 with @BrowserInfo

kind of bizarre, but true.

Sorry to insist, but you didn’t mention you changed your mail DB with the latest mail template.

It’s a must have to have it work with NS7.1.

And install Domino 6.5 doesn’t mean the existing mail DB were upgraded !

To know were the problems come from, go to that URL :

http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/demos.nsf/lookup/inoteswebaccessdemo

There you can create a mailbox online.

Then if you have access to the mailbox with NS 7.1 than your server is where the problem is. If you don’t than your browser is the problem.

Thanks for your input.I followed the link that you supplied.

I have now solved the problem.

I was using inotes60.ntf and it worked and looked great under IE6.

Once I upgraded to inotes6.ntf, I think it should be called inotes65.ntf, it works great for both IE and Netscape 7.1. I think that inotes60.ntf has a slightly better look, but for the slight difference it doesn’t matter.

The users are happy, that is the main thing.

Thanks for your time.
