ND65 upgrade-LSASS CPU util at 75% and crashes

No virus on this server, all patches applied!

I upgraded a server from Domino5.0.11 to 6.5.1 The Domino server starts for about 10 secs, then “Domino Terminated Abnormaly” pop-up box. I noticed TaskMgr CPU pegs-out & LSASS is using 75%, crashing Domino.

Lotus Support had me reinstall Domino 6.5.1 many times with different configs, same errors.

I finally reinstalled 5.0.11 back in the server & it worked just fine.

The server is an IBM server Model235, RAID5, running IBM Director 4.11, SAV Corp Edition8.1, Veritas Storage Replicator 2.11 build 2.13.60a

Any ideas???

I know you state that your are using Symantec 8.1 but what build.Only build 80+ is supported w/6.5.1, I just installed 9.0

Subject: SAV version is 3.1.0.80+ for ND6.5.1

Symantec says that SAV for Domino is the only version you need to verify build number.I was able to download the latest version yesterday.

I didn’t have SAV for Domino installed when the CPU max’ed out.

SAV Corp Edition was loaded, but all service were stopped (if that matters).

Subject: RE: SAV version is 3.1.0.80+ for ND6.5.1

IF you installed the lates MSO4-11 “835732” microsoft patch it is knows to cause cpu issues on W2K.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;835732

which requires a hotfix to correct…

Subject: Reinstalled 5.0.11 without problems

The MS patch was installed, but doesn’t cause a problem unless Domino 6.5.1 was installed/running.

I uninstalled Domino6.5.1 & reinstalled 5.0.11 without any problems.

Subject: Renaming nsd.exe fixed CPU max

FYI - I renamed Lotus\Domino\nsd.exe and now the Domino server starts without LSASS maxing the CPU. CPU util drops instantly to <10%

This is my quick fix. Why is NSD beating-up LSASS? I don’t know.
