Multiple returns from dialog list

I have a Dialog List field on a form. The Dialog List is based on a View - specifically the column of the view I wish to present to the operator. Is there any way to retrieve into the application both the value of the selected column and an additional column of the view?

Thank you.

@DbColumn?

Subject: Multiple returns from dialog list

In stead of using a dialoglist, I use a computed field, and then I have a little action button (graphic that looks like the hinky mink). I put code in there for perhaps a pick list, I then grab a column that has all the fields concatenated together. Then upon selection, I parse out my return value and place the values in the desired fields.

Here is an example:

choice:=@PickList( [Custom] : [Single] ; @DbName ; “Vendors” ; “Select a vendor” ; “Please select the Vendor” ; 10 );

FIELD vendor := @Word(choice;“¥”;1);

FIELD AcctNo := @Word(choice;“¥”;2);

FIELD vendoraddr := @Explode(@Word(choice;“¥”;3); “~”);

FIELD vndrcity := @Word(choice;“¥”;4);

FIELD vndrstate := @Word(choice;“¥”;5);

FIELD vndrzip := @Word(choice;“¥”;6);

FIELD vndrphone := @ReplaceSubstring(@Word(choice;“¥”;7);“(”:“)”;“”);

FIELD vndrfax := @ReplaceSubstring(@Word(choice;“¥”;8);“(”:“)”;“”);

FIELD vendorpoc := @Word(choice;“¥”;9);

“”

I have a view called Vendors, in column 10, i have formula adding all the fields I need separated by “¥”…

Then I just parse out the values using @Word…

Hi Tom ,Pls try this out. I am writing the algorithm, Pls put the syntax correctly.

In the dialog list field …Select “Choose Formula for choices” option.

The formula is below:

@DbColumn(View1;Column 1):@DbColumn(View1;Column 2): @DbColumn(View2;Column 1) …etc etc

You can carry on like this … use the colon (:slight_smile: as the separator.

Hope this helps.

Pls let me know.

Merry Christmas.

Subject: Yet another solution

Leverage the ability of dialog boxes to use an alias.

For example, the possible choices for the dialog box may be:

The Hobbit|The Hobbit~JRR Tolkien

Small Gods|Small Gods~Terry Pratchett

Assassin’s Apprentice|Assassin’s Apprentice~Robin Hobbs

When selecting only the words to the left of the divider “|” are displayed. However, the content to the right of the “|” is what is actually returned.

You then parse out your combined content from your selection.

values = split(selection,“~”)

print "Title is " + values(0) + " by " + values(1)

The population of the content may be derived from a hidden column in a view:

e.g. Title + “|” + Title + “~” + Author
