Multiple Foreign SMTP domains

Current set up

  • We have one Domino server for a small Australian company, which is configured for the domain ourcompany.com.au

  • All SMTP mail outside this domain is transfered via the internet

  • We currently have one Foreign SMTP Domain document for . and mail is successfully routed out to the internet.

Change required:

We wish to transfer any mail addressed to ourcompany.xxx to specific servers. Mail addressed to ourcompany.com needs to go to one server (exchange gateway in the US) and mail addressed to other domains such as ourcompany.co.uk or ourcompany.de etc to a second server (exchange gateway in Europe).

Questions:

  1. If we add a Foreign SMTP domain document for ourcompany.com and enter the IP address of the Exchange gateway in the Internet Host field, this should take care of the US mail. Is this correct?

  2. Do we need a separate domain document for each other domain, or is it permissable to use wildcards such as ourcompany.* ?? If so, will this over-ride the domain document for ourcompany.com???

TIA

Subject: Multiple Foreign SMTP domains

You should make a seperate foreign SMTP domain for the additional domains and I usually also create an SMTP connection document to that domain. This allows me to control which server sends the mail (and destination servers are the Exchange servers, depending on the domain you want to send to)

I’m not sure about ourcompany.* I’m pretty sure it will work but I’ve never used a wildcard in the last characters.

Thanks Stijn

We only have one server, so connection documents are not necessary. I was am pretty confident about the specific documents for each domain and thanks for confirming that

But I do wonder if anyone has tried using wildcards at the end of the domain.

I could not find any documentation regarding this.

Has anyone out there set up routing using mycompany.* or similar?
