We moved a number of databases to a new server. These databases were moved via a replica copy. The server was shutdown and it’s server document removed from the NAB.
Mnay of these databases had database and doc links in their various documents. The doc links no longer work. Notes does not even give a chance to enter a new server. A message is just displayed that says “Server is not responding”.
Is there anyway to fix this?
P.S. If I go out and open the database refered by the link first then this seems to fix the probelm with the link. In the past when we have moved databases, the old server was still up and Notes would at least prompt for the new server. This does not appear to be happening now.

When a user clicks on a doc-link, Notes follows the following rules to find the database.
If the user has the database (or replicas of the database) on their desktop (or in bookmarks) use that.
Have your users deleted the icon for the old server yet - if not, that’s where notes is trying to get.
If the server is not reachable, it does NOT try any other method.
If the user has not got the icon, use the “Hint” server in the link
If that does not work, start looking in other servers (It might use the Catlog here - I’m not sure of the details)
If it still cannot be found, prompt the user for the server to open, and look for it there.

Thanks Graham but I am aware of that sequence. I’m guessing I have an old icon but this has never been a problem before. If a user had an old icon and we moved the database, then the user would be prompted for a new server. The user is not being prompted. They are just getting an error message.
If the database can not be found, I can’t understand why Notes can’t access the catalog.nsf to get a list of possible servers. But that would be the smart way to do it.

Moving a database from one server to anouther works because the old server can tell notes that the database is not there anymore.
You’ve done more than that - you’ve turned off the old server. So this notes client “knows” where the database is (the old server) but the server is not responding, and can’t tell Notes that it needs to look elsewhere.
