Hi
We are planning to move our Mail Server on Domino R6 from NT to Windows 2000 Server. We will be using a new Machine (Dell 2600). Our stategy is to replicate the contents of the original server and set up the new server as Production. We would like to know about the configurations that we need to look into in order to have a smooth transition. I think I need to change some lines in the ini files but I’m not sure which one of them I should change. Your help is very much welcome!

you might want to think of this .i had to do it that way because my diskarray died.
create new w2k system which is the same in partitions and partitionsize.
install from cd the same version of notes that your are now running . make the enviroment the same. i.e. data on same partition , prg on same partition etc.
also for production make sure fqdn and ip are same on the w2k machine.
dont start notes .
copy the old notes data and prg on the same place at the new server.
start notes server and hope !
it did work for me :_) good luck

Thanks for the info!
I tried your suggestion before, I copied the entire Lotus Directory and ran it on a test server and it worked. However I had to shutdown the domino server in order to make a full backup of the Lotus Directory (it took about an hour) and my boss doesn’t want any downtime (well at least it should be minimal).
I was thinking of replicating the production server while it is running and start moving from there. I have an idea but I’m not really sure what to do next. Pls help!

well then just decommission the server …bring in the new one make sure the server is happy in the domain and does all the things you want him to do.
then you can move the users over.
tools out of the box are : admin client with server tab , analyze tab and then tools - decommision. the things mentioned in the protocol are the names of the fields ( x-check with designer). the actual move of the mamilfiles is done via adminp. you start this with people tab and then move mailuser . you can mark 1 or n users for move. make sure adminp works; especially that the user has to open the mailbox ON the server (sometime during the process). also make sure that the local addressbooks updates itself via dynamic client updater.

I would prefer the way the other Forum Member described because which Id would the new server have ? Do you created a new Server Id ? If yes, be aware if this is a Mail Server you have do change a huge amount of settings in the Server/User Environment. The simple copy of the Databases/Templates offline is really the better way…
Bye
