Our organization has recently adopted a new domain name two weeks ago in which case the old domain is no longer functional. Our domino 8.0.2 server and notes clients will need to operate under the new domain name.
i have changed all the settings that i could find within the domino administration program and the notes.ini file to reflect the new domain but i am still unable to bring mail in. sending out mail works but i wish to find the “magic fix” to correct this and i’m sure it is probably right under my mouse click.
help anyone???
Subject: change MX records in DNS?
You didn’t mention anything about changing the DNS records. You should check your DNS records (mxtoolbox.com has a free way to do that) and be sure that emails being sent to your new domain are pointed at your server(s).
If the MX records are correct, test to see what response you get when trying to send an email from the outside to the new address. (What is the message/code in the delivery failure?)
Also, check the log on your server and see if it shows that a message was attempting to be delivered, and if it records that it blocked or rejected it.
If you get a delivery failure, or a message in the log, you can search on those messages for your next steps to correct the problem.
Subject: mx records
hi maria,
i ran the mx toolbox utilities and it appears the mx records are not resolving back to the domain here. where i thought i should see our server.domain.com be reported it showed up as resolving back to mx.b.hostedmail.com i understand the isp created an agreement in which they supply 5 static ip’s AND a mail server for the organization’s mail. i am guessing that contacting them so mail is routed to the mail server instead is the next step but i’m not 100% sure what to ask them to do. does all this make sense?
