We are running domino 8.0.2 with basic 8.0.2 client.
We have server based and user based archiving enabled on our domino network.
Problem: when user tries to archive selected documents form certain folders the emails get deleted from main mail file but they are not listed in folder on archive. they are however in all doc’s.
this is occurring intermittently. I have tried creating a new copy of the archive db but problem returns.
Where could the problem be, is it the view or the document?
Subject: If I recall right, it is the folder knowing the documents it contains, not vice versa.
I guess the major motivation back than for doing folders at all was the idea to move around documents in ‘view like objects’ without changing the document itself. - So much for the background, I personally never liked the concept, and avoid folders wherever I can (no I can’t in Mail, either, if not by changing a lot of design).
If this is related to your previous questions, I would not be surprised if you would find another folder twice in the archive (in the meaning that the newly archived documents did not get, that you had the folder already in the archive, but that a new one was created - and that this one is not visible like what you did see before. - !!! this is all just guessing !!! - If I am right, the problem is, that the archiving process most likely transfers the folder content info not referencing some name but some ID of the folder. All this must be a nightmare and I do feel sorry for you. Anyhow, I would now check if this is right, if true, move again the documents of the folders in the archive to a new one (not copies, and with a different name), and archive another document in the Mailfile hoping that the Folder in the Archive is generated automatically. Than I would check if another archived document ends in the same folder in the archive, and last I would move the already archived documents back into that folder, too. If might be worth asking the User how often they did create a new folder with the same name as you are still collecting the leftovers of this process. and it might be worth to SPR all this (and no I don’t would be satisfied with a works as designed as the user most likely was not aware that something would go wrong).
Anyhow, it could be me being wrong all the way too. Once you have finally figured out things, please let us know what you did find.
this is what i have tried and this is what i have found…
Rename folder in archive. Went to mail file and tried an archive of a document from the same folder. Email is still archived to the renamed folder as i would expect.
Moved emails from folder in archive into new folder named (test). then deleted folder from archive. went to mail file an then tried archiving a document from its parent folder into archive thinking that it should re-create folder as i have deleted original. but no, the document becomes an orphan. No new folder is created. the document found in all documents.
My problem seems to be random as well. certain folder archive fine but others will not archive as expected. so we have to go hunting for the documents in all docs.
let me know what you think…i might fly this past support…
