I have read somewhere that a tool provided with the R6 granted the possibility of migrating exchange db to notes db, providing the users all their old mails.
Does anyone have more information on this, and who will be able to tell me where to find this tool, and where to find any further information on the process to follow.
I think there are some migration tools installed when you install the Notes client, but I also think you have to choose to install them (custom install).
I think that binary tree is the way to go with their CM Tool. We have migrated close to 4000 user with that tool. Pretty flexible and BinaryTree is amazingly responsive to issues and code related conumdrums.
If your Exchange Users have “Migration friendly” mailboxes you can give the standard migration tools coming with Lotus Notes Domino a try.
When registering a new user you can connect to your Exchange Server to migrate the users Mailbox - I’d recommend to read the IBM Redbook (Exchange->Notes Migration) for a detailled description.
However there are limitations. For example “nested mails” (mails that contain other mails) will not convert correctly. Mails with LOT’s of Attachments will be a problem (50+ attachments). STRANGE names of Attachments, …
A test of the migration would be a good idea.
The NUPGRADE (local migration tool coming with Notes Client) is useful for building the pNAB entries but will fail at the same mails (see above) and on some others. So as a rule of thumb put all data that should be converted on your Exchange server
You may consider to use the userreg.nsf as well for bigger amounts of users. But a lil’ hint: Don’t migrate too much users at once. Depending on servers and migration client performance and mailbox size make chunks of 5-15 users.
