Hi all,
Running 8.5 Domino on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and over time (only hours) memory creeps up by Domino services but … if you maximise then minimise the console on the server the memory gets freed up … then over time it again starts to get used up.
Checking on the web it seems this max/min the console and freeing up of memory has occured in Domino 5 and upwards … is this a Domino issue or Windows issue? And … does anyone know a solution to this other than having to max/min the console every few hours which is unworkable especially as in this case the server is hosted and hence not often logged onto as console?
Thanks,
Derek
Subject: Heh… funny to see this still around
If I remember correctly, it’s a Domino on Windows issue. Something about how Windows handles console-style programs.
Don’t worry about it, it should eventually “top out” at a certain amount of memory – it won’t grow forever.
Subject: Thanks and …
Hi Erik,
Thanks for the response and good to know it won’t keep creeping up in memory use.
But as it uses up memory that it doesn’t seem to need (i.e. if you min./max it drops) is there a way of running Domino service without it starting the console to save that memory? I know you can use the Service Controller way but that in itself uses some so be nice to run Domino service as normal but just without console and use Web Admin or Admin client alone to for console access.
Subject: I think so
I want to say I remember reading that at some point, and that it does help. I can’t remember how though, check the 5/6/7 forums to see if they explain it there.
