Mass FTI'ing and ACL changes

I have a small Notes/domino environment. Only about 550 users on 5 enterprise servers. The largest server has about 140 users.

I need to update the ACL and create a Full Text index for all users and I know I can do that through Domino Administrator.

I have 2 questions:

  1. What kind of performance hit should I expect for each of these?

  2. Is there any way to predict how large an FTI will be? For instance, are they usually 20% of the mailfile size, or is it more like 2%?

Thanks,

Dave

Subject: Mass FTI’ing and ACL changes

Dave, Are indexing personal mail files or some other database types? The size will vary depending on the settings you apply. For example, the index of a database with 10,000 documents composed of one field containing 3 words probably wouldn’t be very large at all. On the other hand, a database that has 500 documents each containing 5 word doc attachments could be enormous depending on whether or not you are indexing the attachment content.

I can't say what kind of performance hit indexing the files would be as I don't know anything about them but as long as you have a reasonably resourced server platform, it probably won't even be noticed. You can also set the indexing up to happen on a schedule (off-peak hours, etc.) but if you have databases that get updated a lot that likely won't be an option.
