Managed Mail Replica (Client/Server Versions)

Does the client and server have to be at 8.5.2 in order to use a managed mail replica? I read that the 8.5.2 client was required (or so I thought) but was a little unsure about the server. I’m assuming it is required in order to manage the policy/setting. Also, can I adjust indexing to perform daily versus immediate with these replicas? Would I need a notes.ini variable pushed or is there a setting in the setting document? Needless to say, I don’t want to edit the mail template or adjust manually in document properties on the managed replica. Thanks in advance.

Subject: Client must be 8.5.2, Domino Directory only if you use Policies…

The design of the Domino directory must be 8.5.2 to be able to activate the Managed Replica using policies. If you use CacheMail= in the notes.ini, neither the Domino server, nor the mail file, nor the ODS must be 852 or ODS51

Subject: CacheMail= Value

Christian, thanks for your quick response. We have a mail server (7.0.4) that will soon be decommissioned and users will move to a new server with 8.5.2. It sounds like our clients (mix of 7.x → 8.5.2) could use managed replicas since the directory (admin server is 8.5.2) would contain the settings. What value is used with the CacheMail= parameter since the current mail server is not 8.5.2 and some clients and mail files are not 8.5.2? Is this setting at the client level or the server? Thanks in advance.
