Maintaining Child without Parent

Hi All,

I’ve been searching through this forum looking for a scenario similar to mine but no luck (although there are many documents that do discuss child/parent docs).

I have a view which has parent and child docs and recently added a button to change the value of a field on selected documents in this view from “ArchiveNo” to “ArchiveYes”.

Is it possible to remove a parent document in a view WITHOUT removing its child documents? I know if I uncheck the “Show documents in hierarchy” in the View Properties I can keep the child documents, but they no longer keep the hierarchy view which I need for the documents that I do not want to archive.

Any help in this strange case would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In a view set to display docs in parent/child hierarchy, you MUST have the parent to display the child. Your only option is to disable this option and rethink the way you built the view so you can create what looks like a parent/child view that is not (think categories - just make sure that the field(s) you use to establish the categories is in both the parent and child docs).

Hi

Using Parent/Child hierarchy is intended to answer a functional need.

If you need to remove parents, consider too moving the response docs to parent docs (removing $REF, checking the form - document/response/response to response- and so on).
