"Mailbox is full" error appears whenever new mail arrives

Hello,I am quite new to Lotus Notes. Have just started working on this. Will love to post quite often to share ideas on this.

Currently using Lotus Notes 6.5. This is a new kind of error I have come across but do not know how to resolve this issue. If anybody has heard of this, please help.

A particular user is getting the mailbox full message each time a new mail arrives. Not only that, upon checking the mailbox size, it appears a little weird. This is how it looks.I cannot paste a screen shot, so just mentioning the details of the error message.


Mail Box Size

Mailbox size: 89.01MB

Full text index size: 205.67 MB

Total Size: 294.68 MB


This is quite weird, because generally when we select the Tools–>Mailbox size, only the current size is displayed.

So, assuming that this could be some fixup or compact issue, tried the following in the same order.

load compact (nsf path)-c-i

load fixup (nsf path)

load updall (nsf path)

none of the above seemed to work.

Also noted that in the Database Properties for this particular mailbox, the full text indexing option seems to be enabled. but for other general users, that option is not enabled.I do not think this has any relation to the problem.

Please help to correct the problem. Have tried all possible options as mentioned above. What could be the reason for this ?

First of all you have posted a Notes 6.5 issue in Notes 8 forum… if you were in the right forum maybe you’d get an answer sooner.

Nevertheless, if the error is happening on the user side and only for this user, then it is likely a client issue - and not database related.

You might want to check if your user has local mail replica and then check the contents of mail.box (icon should be their on their Notes workspace). If there are any pending mail sitting there, they might be causing the issue.

Ask them if they get any message that outgoing mail are sitting when they logout of Notes.
