Mail sent internally (within Domino) at 8AM not arriving until 11 AM?

Message Tracking confirms delivery at 11AMUser’s sent folder confirms sending at 8 AM

There was a rather sizable attachment in the message.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

I sent 2 test messages to the same recipient, one with an attachment, the other without.

The one without the attachment goes through instantaneously, still waiting on the one with the attachment.

The recipient’s mail file does not have any rules pertaining to attachments, netiher does the server doc.

This is purely a guess, but based on the information you’ve provided, its shouting “backlogged 3rd party server virus scanner queue” to me.

Virus scanners will only bother to queue up for inspection those emails containing attachments.

Its also possible that the user is using a remote “Island” or “Home” Location document set to use Local mail, and that they switched to an “Office” location at 11am. That’s the moment when the mail would actually leave their local machine’s local outgoing MAIL.BOX.

There is a field in the configuration document:

Restrictions tab: Send all messages as low priority if the message size is between:

where you can specify the size and then low priority messages get sent between a ceartain time as specified on the transfer controls tab.

Just a hunch.

It was the Symantec AntiVirus s/w indeed.

I opened up the mail.box and saw loads of messages with attachments queued. The “Failure Reason”? … SAV

Time to ask the SAV administrator what’s changed,

thks for the info,
