I have a user who mailed another with the option Return receipt enabled. Shortly after that, and within the space of 10 minutes, he received between 1,300 and 1,500 return receipts from the recipient.
I can’t reproduce this but would like to know what would have triggered this so I can take actions to stop it happening again.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might have happened?
Jim
Subject: Reproduced…
User A sends a message with return receipt enabled to user B.User B moves the message unread to trash.
User B opens the preview area (at the bottom).
User B opens the trash folder and selects the message there.
→ The Notes client generates return receipts until you stop it via CTRL+Break, sometimes the Notes client of user B freezes, sometimes the Notes client of user A freezes because of the many return receipts…
It logs at the status bar: “Unable to send return receipt: No documents were categorized”
(We used Lotus Notes 8.0.2FP1, Soft deletions are enabled)
Have no info or solution, but Notes 8.5.2FP1 logs the error only once and tries to send only once. Upgrading helps at first.
Subject: Mail rule
I got the same problem several months ago. A user left his mail access open, some one made a mail rule which had the same effect. I don’t remember the trick but it was very efficient …

Thanks Luc but I don’t think so in this case. Both users have mail rules but one moves explicitly defined addresses to Junk and the other moves all mail in which he is cc’d to a folder.
