A client of mine is having a stange issue with mail address resolution. Here is scenario:
-
New email is created
-
User clicks the “To” link to open the Domino Directory address list
-
User selects a person from the list, double clicks, clicks “OK”
-
User completes the email and sends
-
Email sends to the first person in the personal address book, not the person in the Domino Directory
As a related note, in step #3, if the user selects a person and then clicks “Show Details” it shows the details of the first person in the personal address book, not the person whose name is selected.
In addition, even if the user does not use the Directory listing to choose the recipient, this misdirection still happens.
I’ve checked the properties of the personal address book entries and there seems to be no reason to resolve to this rather than the public (I first though that it was a “personal takes precidence over public” problem).
Anyone seen this issue?
Subject: Mail resolves to personal address book rather than Domino Directory
not sure why that would happen but …
make a copy of the personal address book then open the “real” one and delete all of the people and groups. Now try sending the e-mail as above, does it work now? If so, recover the people and group from the copy you made and copy/paste them back into the “real” address book, try another test, does it work right now?
If this doesn’t work then try this in order and test after each:
-
rename bookmark.nsf (notes will create a new one)
-
delete cache.ndk (notes will create a new one)
-
recreate the names.nsf
-
reinitialize the client setup by clearing out the notes.ini from just below the Directory= line
-
reinstall the client from scratch
One of the above should work

Have you checked the following settings in the location document:* Recipient Name Type Ahead
The settings in these fields control the behaviour of name lookup and resolution.
Also if you suspect issues with the personal address book try opening it up and holding down the ‘Ctrl + Shift + F9’ keys at the same time. This will force a rebuild of all views in the address book and fix any suspected view issues.
