Mail Delivered To Wrong Person

I have a problem of mail going to the wrong person. for example Internet mail (mail from outside the Notes Domain) is addressed to soreff@xxxxx.com.

When a lookup is done on the Domino Directory there is no such address as soreff@xxxxx.com, however there is an address of asoreff@xxxxx.com and mail is delivered there.

What needs to be done to stop this from happening? It appears as if an address is not found in the directory it delivers the mail to what Notes considers to be the closest match to the address.

it’s going to “soreff” because you have a user with that last name so it resolves to that user. If you want to exclude that from happening you need to change the setting in your config doc to use the Fullname only. Find this on the Router/SMTP > Basics tab, Address Lookup field. It’s prob currently set to Fullname then Local Part. But make sure you know how this will affect your mail routing before making the change
