Macos client (sluggish, unresponsive, etc)

Hi all,
macos client is really disappointing.

I have been trying versions 12.0.2FPx (replace x with latest avail FP) and 14FPx. This was in order to try and see which one was more reliable.

Users report interface slow downs , you click and nothing happens, sometimes closing email tab and reopening it kind of fixes it, other times there is no way but to close and reopen the client. Sometimes even selecting an email in inbox is hard: I click on the left side and nothing happens so I start clicking more to the right … and sometimes I am lucky and I can select it … horrible … what should I tell users ?

We work with email every single day … email MUST work reliably and flawlessly.

It has been years since we have been putting up with sluggish performance on macos.

My last encounter with a problem was on a newly installed client on a new iMac for a new user (powerful new machine, very small email file). I start showing the user some basic tasks and client stops responding to mouse clicks. I try to click on Who column and it’s like I never clicked. Esc key was ignored … I mean this is (IMHO) a terrible experience.

The version was 12.0.2 with latest FP. Similar things happen routinely on my machine (with 14 and latest FP). I put up with it, but users are complaining and they ask me why aren’t we using Outlook. Unfortunately there is no Outlook integration on the Mac (there is for Windows only).

Not to mention the issue with printing emails. From inside an email it is often not possible to print it, one has to close it and try from the inbox. I just checked the support article and it has no news about this being solved:

My questions:

  1. Am I the only one experiencing these issues?
  2. Are there tips on how to have a better experience with the macos Notes client?
  3. Has anyone tested the 14.5 macos client ?

Unless someone has tips that help solve macos client, my options at the moment are 2:

  • switch them away from the client and moving them to web client (Verse sin iNotes is going away).
  • moving them away from Domino into Microsoft 365

Hi Michael,

I suggest that you open a support case to further investigate this as there are several factors that could be causing this performance issue

Regards,
Jemille

sorry but from my previous experience I have no hope such a thing would be solved by Support … it would be just a waste of time.

If you need proof of above, see ticket CS1404591 .

I needed to move a Traveler server to another VM.
First support person:
“Traveler is installed on top of the Domino server.
Therefore, you need to follow the procedure to migrate Domino.
Then in case you encounter any issue with traveler after migration, then we can work on it on a new case”

When I ask for a confirmed way to move a Traveler server then case is forwarded to another tech.
Second support person (Traveler specific):
“Based on the product documentation, it doesn’t appear that there is a supported way to move the Traveler server to another VM”

Now look at this link from Traveler documentation (I found it after giving up on Case):

Sorry for the honest answer, but my hope is that by giving this kind of feedback, support managers can understand and try to fix the support experience.
