Mac OS Excel Export issue

I have a Mac user running IBM Notes 9 Social Edition Release 9.0.1 (64-bit) on a iMac Late 2012 with an OS of X El Capitan (version 10.11.6)

When the user tries to export to excel the machine will just hang. ( the user gets a dialog box indicating exporting documents)

Is this a view export using a CSV type?

Are you just using the standard menus or some code within an application that says Export to Excel?

Where is the export file being created?
