It seems that Lotus have released their own Outlook->Domino interface (‘outlook access’) for version 6.5.2 – but I can’t find a feature or buglist anywhere.
The similar MS ‘outlook connector’ product seems to have some significant (but well-documented) bugs related to repeating meetings and other features…so I’m left wondering how the Lotus product compares.
We’re running 6.5.1 at the moment, and the Lotus ‘outlook access’ connector seems only to ship with 6.5.2, so I haven’t had a chance to evaluate for myself yet.
Has anyone got any more data on how these products compare? I’m most interested in buglists and capability of PROPER roaming on top of XP romaing profiles (this also seems preblematic with the MS product).
Subject: lotus outlook access vs ms outlook connector ?
The product is called ‘Domino Access for Outlook’ (DAO). It did ship with previous versions of Domino, but was significantly revamped for Domino 6.5.1, so it didn’t ship with the server when it was released last spring. It was released later, on its own, as a separate download. You can contact Lotus Support about how to obtain this file.
Note that it only works on Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and only with Outlook 2000 and Outlook 2002 (aka, Outlook XP). Support for Outlook 2003 should be forthcoming with Domino 6.5.3.

thanks for the clarification and the pointer to the release notes – have found the trial version for 6.5.1 and downloaded. will try later.
my main interest is whether it ‘properly’ suppports windows roaming profiles – the notes seem to indicate that it uses machine-wide ‘outlook profiles’ rather than the outlook settings stored for the current user – i.e. all the specific individual user configuration is NOT stored in that user’s roaming profile – is this correct?
If so, has any one any suggestions as to how to work around this (fairly significant) limitation? we have over 100 hotdeskers who use commoditised workstations, and need all config data to roam tidily with the user logins (on xp).

ok – the MAPI profiles roam, but by default, there are user-specifc NSF and PST files for each user in c:\program files\dominoforoutlook, which obviously DON’T roam. If I move the PST and NSF files to a server share (and repoint outlook at the PST file) then the local NSF file still seems to get recreated when the users log back in, and mail and calendar sync doesn’t work. Obviously this is a problem – is there any way to make this work with the user-specific PST and NSF files on a share – or better yet, any way to lose them entirely and work ‘straight from the server’ as one can with Exchange?
Subject: RE: domino for outlook: how to support WINDOWS ROAMING?
Hey guys,
we’re currently evaluating DAMO (Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook) as well. Our environment looks like using Office XP SP2 with Domino 6.5.2. We had serious issues with the DAMO 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 during connects to the server. 6.5.1 crashes really hard while 6.5.2 takes minutes to connect from the server.
For 6.5.3 is out now for some days that one is really working out fine.
Is there a way to get the DAMO work with roaming profiles?? Looks like it’s not. But for our profit center has several hotdeskers it doesn’t make much sense to migrate to DAMO with profiles not working…
