Lotus Notes Sucks!- Did anyone see this site?

Dear All,I am an aredent fan and lover of Lotus Notes. One day I happened to come across a web site (http://lotusnotessucks.4t.com)

As I read through the site I realised that the guy does have a point. He has outlined the difficulties that a user faces when using Lotus Notes.

As much I I hate I have to but agree with him that Lotus Notes can do with a lot of pruning and a serious relook at the usability.

Thoughts anyone???

Except for the not so polite title, it’s fun reading through that site. Before reading through that site, I thought, it may be complaining about Lotus Notes/Domino’s inability to handle transaction based/heavy volume enterprise computing. But the site actually is about the shock a Microsoft user is faced with. When Lotus displays the message box “Type mismatch” user types “mismtach” on his keyboard!!

Microsoft has a program for validating softwares, and granting them a logo “Certified for Microsoft” or something like that, if it meets all UI specifications on windows platform. May be IBM has other priorities than getting this logo for Lotus products.

Sure, there are valid points. Some more, some less. After all, the period of new content coming up was pretty short-lived. Obviously, there’s not much more to add.

I like the “final thoughts” sections and the quotes by Vivekbp (never checked the original source) given. Just a few examples:

“It uses a counter-intuitive UI of having multiple windows open on a tool bar inside a single window (this is the best description I can give to this non-standard UI).”

I wonder, if this refers to the “non-standard” UI concept of tabbed windows …

“Uses strange e-mail addressing system like VIVEKBP/SOFTWARE/MOUTHSHUT.COM”

Huh, let’s hope that Microsoft will take this seriously and change their user names to RFC compliant email addresses as soon as possible.

“This is not all a true E-mail client like MS Outlook, Eudora etc. It doesn’t work with any run of the mill SMTP/POP (internet E-mail) servers. It needs a IBM Lotus Domino Server as the back-end (costs $$$$$).”

This one goes without words, I assume.

So, it was a kind of a fun read, almost two years ago, and that’s it.

as someone who has been developing Lotus Notes for 12 years now, Lotus Notes has it’s greatnesses and it’s weaknesses just as any platform. However if you compare Lotus Notes to any other platform, you will see that it does much more by itself, where other platforms need to work with other platforms to come close to the same amout of features that Lotus Notes has. With each version IBM is adding more and more to Lotus Notes…

Yawn… do any of the “Notes Sucks” blogs recognize that 90% of the UI complaints have been addressed in version 8? Perhaps their time is better spent bashing Office 2003.

I disagree. I would rather say that 90% of the UI complaints have actually been addressed in version 6. :stuck_out_tongue:

And 90% of the rest is history since 8 …
