Lotus Notes 8.5.1 MULTI USER

We are currently planning to upgrade the Lotus Notes Client infrastructure from 6.5.1 to 8.5.1. We will be uninstalling the 6.5.1 client (in single mode) and will be installing 8.5.1 (in multi user mode) as suggested by our local support.

We would like to ask whether Lotus Notes Client 8.5.1 MULTI USER works without Local Admin rights.

Will Lotus Notes be able to read/write from the notes.ini which resides in the c:\Documents and settings\ etc?

Subject: You don’t need Admin rights to USE Lotus Notes 8.5.1 Multi-User

By default, the data directory of the user is %Userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Lotus\Notes\DataThe user has the appropriate rights to write data in this directory, so as the notes.ini resides in this directory (in contrast to a single user installation), the user is able to write to it.

You may use MULTIUSERCOMMONDIR and MULTIUSERBASEDIR to relocate the data directories.

You have to take care of the data migration for your existing users …

Subject: Notes Multi User

Hi,

The installation of the software need to be done with Admin rights, due to install of the program itself.

A user does not need Admin rights. He will get his own notes.ini in the “local settings” of the “Documents & Settings” in which they can write.

The notes.ini in the “All Users” will not be edited by the user.

Good luck!
