When I try to update Lotus 6.5.2 to Lotus Notes 6.5.3 an error message comes back and says I need a current verion of lotus notes to upgrade. I have tried the msi cleanup utility but it still says I need a currnet version of Notes I have uninstalled all versions of notes and have also cleaned up the registry. I tried re-installing the application and the same message keeeps coming up. Any and all help would be appreciated. It might be helpful If i knew what the install program is looking at to get the error message.

I had this problem when we upgraded to 6.5.3.If you add and then remove 6.5.3 from Add/Remove programs Windows will still think it is installed.
Below is a handy utility which is similar to add remove programs which will find the 6.5.3 install.
Remove notes from there and reinstall and it should be ok then.

I have used the utility you suggested but niether one of the installed programs appear in the list of installed programs. In either case therror message states that I need version 6 to update notes which I know has been installed. The sequence of events are this. We had version 5.xx and were upgraded to version 6.5.2 and then upgraded to version 6.5.2. The users who have been upgraded from version 5 to 6.5.2 are the ones that seem to get this error. I have tried the cleaning utility but it still says I need version 6 to upgrade. I have also cleaned the registry of any instance of lotus notes as well as deleted all folders and/or files associted with notes but still get the message.

Which kind of install do you use ? incremental I suppose, because I never saw Notes installer asking for a previous version in the full installation. If it is, just use a full installation CD and I think it will work

Thanks Christian, but this seems to be a problem with the Windows installer. We use the Upgrade version of Notes 6.5.3. The problem was encountered when we tried to push the upgrade, even if we tried to force the upgrade manually the message would still come up. We also did try installing from the cd but it did not work either. I found one solution, I thought would work, using the windows installer cleaner but that did not work either. Even after uninstalling notes completely and cleaning out the registry of all notes entries and deleting any and all folders and files from the hard drive pertaining to notes, the Windows installer would still think it had a previous version of notes nanmely, version 5x. Eventually I tried the one thing I had not tried before I reinstalled version 6.5.2 again and then tried the upgrade and it miracously installed. Somewhere in the upgrade processes from version 5 to version 6.5.2 the installer Dll file had gotten corrupted. I ran the windows installer cleaner utility again it was only after I installed the 6.5.2 that the installer recognized that version 6.5.2 was installed and thus the upgrade went fine. So there it is. Thanks to all for your help and insight.
