Lost ID and password forgotten

g’day,

I have a user whose ID file has been lost without trace (laptop stolen). not even backups have it. I used ID recovery database to create a new copy of the ID file. however, a user cannot remember her password and the whole installation and client setup is new.

can I use extract recovery password during the setup procedure? how else can I change/reset user’s password if I cannot open the client and go to properties of the user’s ID file?

You don’t need to do the password recovery on the user’s machine. Recover the password on your machine, change the password to something usable, then set up the user’s machine as normal and have the user change the password after login.

sorry must have missed something. how can I recover password on my machine? I cna’t open user’s ID file. I can’t do switch ID. I understand the rest of the process just not the first part, how to recover the password on my machine.

It sounds like you should read up on password recovery. If I’m understanding your situation correctly, you have recovered an ID file from the ID file recovery database. But that file is not like a normal ID file yet. You need to use a configured Notes client and run through the ID file recovery process on the client. When you launch the client and come to the password dialog box press Cancel to get to the dialog box with the option to recover an ID file. Then you point to the new file you extracted from your recovery database and enter the long cryptic password associated with it. This should allow you into the client with that ID file. Then you can set the password for the ID file and you’re all set. Take that file and configure your user’s client with it. Assuming you do this on your own client, don’t forget to point to your own ID file the next time you launch your client.

You can recover the password file from Admin Client.

Configuration → Tools → Certification → Extract Recovery Information
