Lockout users after 3 failed login attempts - can we?

New IT compliance here at work will require that Notes lockout users when they attempt to logon un-scuccessfully 3 times. From my understanding as at Release 7 (we have 6.5.1 at present), Notes cannot enforce this; it just loops and goes slower each time.

  1. Is this right?

  2. I have read about “Pistol Star”, which looks like it passes authentication to Active Directory for example. This may not be suitable as we may have to have separate Notes passwords too.

Are there any other methods (like a policy or server setting) that I may not be aware of, or commercial products that could help us?

Thanks, Paul.

Subject: Lockout users after 3 failed login attempts - can we?

Hi Paul,

I have had to use a windows dialog box detection script which would increment a flag on the user’s workstation. If the increment exceeded then the software would not load and if on the network, they would be added to the DenyAccess list in the server address book (This was done with Winbatch). I do not believe there is a “canned” option this specific.
