Is there a way to open a Mailfile Local Replica when using Domino Web Access?
Domino Sync Manager seems to work only on archives…
We are considering moving away from Notes Client and exclusively into Domino Web Access. The problem is that we have a number of users who have old local replicas that they would like to keep.
Or maybe there is a way of converting these local replicas in a way that can be accessed through DWA?
Subject: Local Replicas vs Domino Sync Manager Archives
Local as in kept on local machine? Now don’t take my words for granted, as I haven’t worked with DWA much, but I’d say no. The main reason is, no web browser will be able to read .nsf file - it is a native Lotus format, not one created for web browsers. So what a browser needs is a Domino server it could connect to and which could “translate” the .nsf file into something the browser would recognize. On local machine you probably don’t even have any http server, not mentioning Domino server. So if you would like to keep the files locally, then i’d say no. However if you move them to a Domino server it would work just like with any other mail files accessed with DWA. I think you wouldn’t even have to change anything, as you should be able to browse standard mail files (unless they are replicas from some older version of LN). Eventually you might want to change their templates to inotesX.ntf
If space is not a problem for you I would suggest moving the replicas from local machines to mail folder on your main server and changing their ACLs to match the users’ original mail files (and of course names to something different, so they are easily recognized as old replicas and don’t overwrite the mail files).
