I'm testing a Sametime Server 11.5 because I'm moving one company from a Sametime 9.0.1.
ALL the users tested have the same issue: starting Notes, Sametime window stays with "Loading" message in Italian Notes client 11.0.1FP2. I've already read this technote which is about German client and the issue is exactly the same.
I cannot think about there is no workaround: it is not possible for an enterprise solution such as Notes that this is not immediately fixed and there is no workaround.
What do you think about that @Trevor Tallackson and @Anthony Payne ? Do you agree? Could you help me?
I totally understand your anger. I have discussed this issue with HCL Support for several weeks.
Solution: Uninstalling of fixpacks on clients & rollback to GA release. ATM this is the only way as far as I was told by manufacturer. Very annoying issue, very disappointing resolution. I think we will just have to wait for them to provide a fix(for the fixpack).
Hi Jan, thank you very much for your feedback, very appreciated
I totally agree with you: this is absolutely not a solution. This customer has already told me: I pay my software maintenance, I would like to have "immediately" a hotfix. If not I cannot deploy Sametime 11.5.
Thank you for reporting this against Italian clients. I have updated our development team with this information, as this is a high priority issue we are working to resolve.
Can you provide the following feedback in your customer environment:
If a new chat is received, does the chat window render correctly?
If vertical tabs option is selected, what are the results?
yes: if new chat is received, it renders correctly
vertical tabs are already selected: I also tried to switch to horizontal and then to vertical again without success (at the beginning I had also tried to force vertical tabs to test users through managed-settings.xml)
The problem is that IT dept has completely stopped Sametime 11.5 deploy because of this issue. I had already upgraded Sametime Proxy to 11.5 IF1 in order to have new web chat.
I'm very disappointed... wouldn't it be possible to have a hotfix?
Thank you for the quick response. Another quick test if you could, what are the results in your customer environment of setting the following in C:\Program Files (x86)\HCL\Notes\framework\rcp\plugin_customization.ini
Thank you for the update. There are no side effects and this is actually how 11.5 rich clients are designed to function. Your results are slightly different than we suspected, so I'm performing some additional testing before we consider updating the article referenced with this workaround.
The traditional offline messaging supported in v9 doesn't apply to v11.x persistent chat, but you should be notified of new chat received if a client wasn't detected when the message was sent. This is typically only seen when web and mobile clients are involved, keeping users "active" after client disconnects.
Since it is a chat window parameter, you should be able to push this setting via managed-settings.xml. Once confirmed, we'll update this article with that information as well.
During client initial startup, open chats and history are loaded from the Sametime Community server. This parameter is intended to hide the chat window while loading chat history and display it once completed. The intention in this environment was to avoid displaying the "Loading" window which gives the appearance the chat client is not responding. It's is accomplishing this, but the original issue remains as the final loaded chat history window is not displaying. When a new message is sent or received, the chat window renders and displays correctly. This would be considered a valid workaround, as design changes in 11.5 result in a very similar behavior.
I'm testing using managed-settings.xml to deploy this setting. I'll provide the result and an action plan with some new tracing via our support case to help identify the cause.
To restate, the version 11 chat window displaying "Loading" until a new chat is received is considered a defect we are working to address with a valid solution.

@Stefano Benassi I edited this reply to correct some information I received clarification on.
