Loading a database at user startup

Domino 6.5.x

My company wants to automatically launch a database on Notes startup, but we want to do it in addition to the user’s welcome page, not as a replacement for it. We are trying to find a way to automate the process. I know we can add "StartupDb= to the notes.ini, and we can automate that via our login script. The problem is that not everyone runs a login script.

Is there a way to automatically add and launch a database on Notes Client startup that does not require our Tech support to touch every computer and does not require user intervention?

Thanks,

Dave

I know you said you want no user intervention, but if all else fails and you do want to educate your users on how to use Notes, here is a tip that explains the Startup folder: http://www.alanlepofsky.net/alepofsky/alanblog.nsf/dx/startup?opendocument&comments

Have a look at the Administrator Help file for information on Desktop Policy settings. You can define policies for bookmarks, including bookmarks in the start-up folder.

I have done something like this back in the year life of R5 and the Portal Builder. What you can do is create a job through Install Pump, SMS, etc., to update the INI file with the additional data. once created store the job on a share that all users can access. The next step would be to create a custom memo form what a hidden formula to call the job on the open share. I know that this does require some interaction on the users part, but short of changing the mail template I found that it was the best way.

Hope this suggestion helps.

Thanks for the quick response.

We are small, by Domino standards, only 600 users.

We don’t use anything like Install Pump. we need to find a way to do this strictly via Notes.

Thanks again,

Dave

Subject: Notes 6 Policies allow you to place DBs in the Startup Folder

From the Admin Help Document: "Creating a desktop policy settings document "

You also use a desktop policy settings document to manage and update bookmarks. You can, for example, set up a bookmark hierarchy for Notes users by creating an outline of bookmarks that includes folders and links such as database links, document links, and URL links. You can create folders that have links within the folders. All of the folders and bookmarks in the outline are then placed on the Bookmark Bar of the Notes client. To add bookmarks to an existing folder on the user’s desktop, such as More Bookmarks, include the folder in the bookmark outline. Any links included in that folder are merged with the corresponding folder in the Notes client. You can also create a folder called “Startup” that includes links that open automatically every time the user logs in to Notes.

For example:
