LDAP and SPAM/Content Solutions

My organization is going to be demo a number of 3rd party solutions for spam and/or content filtering.

A number of them are appliances that will query LDAP for inital setup of the quarantine areas.

The question that I and my coworks have is will the LDAP server in Domino give all possible email addresses to the quering device…

Essentially - Will it see “jdoe@dom.com”, “john_doe@dom.com” and “doe_john@dom.com” as the same user – will/can domino provide that information?

I realize that their will likely be query configurations that need to be done on the 3rd party devices to tell it what to get.

I’ve used Softera’s LDAP browser to look at what is served and I see that the info is under mail, cn, and oid’s.

We looked at the appliance model as well (specifically Barricuda). We decided against it b/c the configuration of LDAP and if the link breaks for some reason (i.e., the appliance goes down or Domino server goes down) then it seemed both needed to be reset. Plus this seems to add an additional query to the Gateway Server (or any other server). We went with the native Domino solution, and chose Spam Sifter from INVCS (ex-Iris guys built it). Yes, I sound like a commercial only because it’s great. It worked within 10 minutes after installing it. Our spam count went down from 80,000 spam messages a day to around 40-50 for all of our users.

Anyway, I think they are offering a special 6 months trial. Check them out:
